NY Prosecutors Uncovered National Underground Market for Prescription Drugs

Prosecutors here in New York say they've uncovered a "national, underground market" for prescription drugs. Some of the most expensive medications, to treat things like HIV, schizophrenia and asthma, were dispensed to Medicaid recipients, usually at no cost, who then sold them on the black market. Court records say the drugs ended up at pharmacies and eventually into the mouths of unsuspecting consumers all over the country. Aside from fraud court records laid out the danger: the bottles could have been tainted, dosage instructions missing and the drugs mishandled.
