Despite declaring his candidacy six weeks after his opposition, Democrat Nate Shinagawa has sustained his positive momentum with a strong fundraising report in the race for New York’s 23rd congressional district. His campaign is reporting revenue of over $113,000 and $95,000 cash on hand. Shinagawa supporters say he has firmly established himself as the top challenger to Rep. Tom Reed.

Elmira Mayor Sue Skidmore Endorses Nate Shinagawa for Congress Joins the growing support of Democratic leaders throughout the Southern Tier
Democratic candidate for Congress (23rd District) and Tompkins County Legislator Nate Shinagawa received the endorsement today of Mayor Sue Skidmore of Elmira, NY. Mayor Skidmore’s follows the endorsements of Hornell Mayor and Steuben County Democratic Chair Shawn Hogan and former Elmira Mayor and State Assembly candidate Jim Hare. Mayor Skidmore also serves as Chair of the Chemung County Democratic Committee.
Sue Skidmore was elected Mayor of Elmira in 2011. She was endorsed by Governor Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Mayor Skidmore has a long history of leadership in her community, and previously served on the City Council, School Board, and other state education committees and agencies. County Legislator Nate Shinagawa has served on the Tompkins County Legislature for over six years and works for a nationally acclaimed healthcare system in the Southern Tier.
“Nate Shinagawa is a proven and dedicated public servant who cares deeply about the citizens, cities, and towns of the Southern Tier,” said Skidmore, “He knows that we can’t fix problems through political attacks and games. He’s genuine, and an experienced leader focused on getting results for middle class families.
