Prather gets life for murder of Eldred man

In Potter County court…it’s a life sentence without the possibility of parole for a Coudersport man. 20-year old Jonothan Prather was convicted of 1^st degree murder last month. He was also fined $50,000. Prather admitted he lured Samual Miller of Eldred to a secluded area of Potter County…then shot him to death. Prior to sentencing, Prather told the court he was sorry and accepted responsibility for his action. There are two co-defendants in the case. 16-year old Kaylynn Benson of Coudersport has already pleaded guilty to murder and is awaiting sentencing. Meanwhile, 26-year old Avery Buckingham of Austin is scheduled for trial in May.

Prather pleads guilty to murder

A Potter County man has pleaded guilty to killing an Eldred man last year. In court, 20-year old Jonothan Prather admitted that he shot Samuel Miller of Eldred eight times. Prosecutors said the apparent motive was to silence Miller, who knew of Prathers involvement in a Port Allegany burglary. Prather admitted to the judge that the murder had been planned. Millers body was discovered near the Prouty State Park in southern Potter County. Prather will be sentenced next month. Two accomplices are awaiting their trials.
