Last night, the Salamanca School Board voted to suspend science teacher Shane Riethmiller and appointed a long-term substitute to take his place for the rest of the school year. On Friday, Riethmiller faced a judge on charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old female student. Prosecutors say the two exchanged explicit pictures of themselves using their cell phones off school grounds. The Salamanca Schools Superintendent sent a letter home to parents regarding the case against Riethmiller.

Salamanca teacher pleads not guilty to sex-related charges
A Salamanca Central School teacher pleaded not guilty in Salamanca City Court Friday to charges he had inappropriate communication by cellular telephone and sexual contact with a 15-year-old female student. The alleged incidents happened between September to November of 2011. According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, eighth grade science teacher Shane Riethmiller, 39, of Dunkirk, pleaded not guilty to two felonies counts of distributing indecent material to minors, promotion of sexual performance of a child,also a felony and endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree sexual abuse, both misdemeanors. He is accused of having sexual contact with the 15-year-old and sending her and receiving from her sexually explicit text messages and nude photographs. Riethmiller waived his right to a felony hearing and the case has been sent to Cattaraugus County Court.

Salamanca Science teacher accused of underage sex crime
After an investigation performed by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff Office
it was found that 39-year old Shane C. Riethmiller, a science teacher at the Salamanca Central School, had sexual contact with an underage female. Riethmiller was also charged with crimes from his activity with a cellular phone when he allegedly received nude photographs of an underage female as well as sending nude photographs of himself back to the child. These incidents occurred in the City of Salamanca from September 2011 through November 2011.The defendant was arraigned in Salamanca City Court and was released to appear in County Court on a later date. The name, age and address of the child will not be disclosed. Riethmiller was charged with Disseminating Indecent Material a Child, Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child, Sexual Abuse of a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
