Possible abduction attempt in Cuba

Police in Cuba are looking for help from the public finding a white male in an older model two-door Jeep who may have tried to abduct an elementary school student on Valentine’s Day in Cuba. Police Chief Dustin Burch said a 12-year-old girl was approached by a man 45-50 years old with red hair and a beard…just a block from school. Police say he attempted to lure the girl to his vehicle.  The 12-year old ran away and told her parents. Cuba police traced leads and searched the area…then a similar abduction attempt in Ellicottville this week caught their attention…but Chief Burch said the suspect descriptions don’t match…so he turned to the media for help…anyone with information should contact the Cuba PD.

Three Cuba residents charged with felony assault in child abuse case

Police have arrested three Cuba residents…charging them with felony counts of assault for the alleged abuse of children under the age of 11…in Cuba. Police also say the trio has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of Child.  28-year old Robert Merrill was sent to jail with bail set at $20,000. Jailed on $15,000 bail were 23-year old Casey Quick and 25-year old Heather Kaiser. Cuba Police say all three are accused of child abuse and maltreatment. Allegany County’s Child Protective Services helped in the investigation.

Cuba man shot by police---in custody

The Allegany County man who fled as Cuba police tried to arrest him last week is in custody this morning in Tennessee after police there shot him. 24-year old Jeremy Ostrander of Cuba suffered non-life threatening bullet wounds. Police said Ostrander fled from Cuba down south where he was spotted. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations said the man was a passenger in a car operated by a former Allegany County resident. Police said she allegedly sped her car toward police and they opened fire. Both are in the Jefferson County Detention Center. They face serious charges in both states, to include multiple felony counts of aggravated assault of a police officer.

DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two people are now in jail in Jefferson County, TN after an officer-involved shooting early Friday morning.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a Dandridge Police officer spotted Jeremy Ostrander, a man wanted out of Allegany County, NY on felony evading and felony reckless endangerment charges, in a red Chevy around 4:45 a.m. His girlfriend, Tesa Harris, was driving.

The Dandridge officer began chasing the vehicle, and was joined by a Jefferson County deputy. They pursued the car to exit 417 on I-40, where the vehicle pulled into a Ruby Tuesday restaurant. When the officers approached the vehicle, Harris sped away.
Sheriff G.W. "Bud" McCoig says the two officers were almost hit by the car, and fired shots at the vehicle.
Harris drove a half mile before pulling over at an abandoned house. Ostrander got out and started running on foot while officers arrested Harris.
Around 8:50 a.m., officers caught up with Ostrander and found him with a gunshot wound that officers call "superficial."
He was taken to UT Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

An attempted arrest on a criminal mischief warrant Wednesday afternoon turned into a search for Cuba resident Jeremy Ostrander, who was still missing when today began.
Cuba police said the pursuit began after they received a tip that Ostrander was on Genesee Street a little after 3 o’clock Wednesday in a Chevy HHR. He had completed a drug deal, police were told.
“Obviously, we can’t verify that at this time,” Cuba Police Chief Dustin Burch said. “However, our officer did respond because we do have a warrant out of our court here in Cuba.”

Cuba man jailed on rape and other charges

Cuba Police have arrested 24-year old Jonathan Hamilton of Cuba. He's charged with ten counts of rape, ten counts of endangering the welfare of a child and three counts of unlawfully dealing with a child. Investigators allege that Hamilton had sexual intercourse with several people under age 17 and he also supplied alcohol to youth. Arraigned in court, he was sent to the Allegany County jail with bail set at $10,000.
