Ban on opening burning

There’s a ban on open burning until May 15.  Cattaraugus County Emergency Services says the ban goes into effect every year. Officials say the mild weather may entice some people to burn leaves or brush…and if they’re caught…they could face serious fines…even jail time. It’s peak season for wildfires…and State Environmental police say they’re stepping up enforcement. Firefighters have already responded to several brush fires this year.
