Friendship Man Charged

Allegany County Sheriff Rick Whitney reports that following a lengthy investigation into the illegal possession and sales of controlled substances in the Town of Friendship. Investigators from the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit assisted by Uniformed Deputies, arrested Richard E. Berst Jr., 21, of 22 Elmwood Avenue, for two counts, each of the following charges: 5th degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and 5th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The charges stem from two September 2011 incidents where Mr. Berst sold pills containing Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, both stimulants, to an agent of the narcotics unit in the Town of Friendship. 
Berst was arraigned before Justice Walter Schurr in the Town of Friendship court and was remanded to the Allegany County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 insurance bond and is scheduled to reappear in Friendship Town Court on October 9th.
