Verbal Dispute Leads to Fatal Stabbing


According to NY State Police,  at approximately 12:30 AM, New York State Police in Allegany County responded to a report of a person stabbed on Tuckers Corner Road in the town of Amity. Upon arrival at the scene, SP Amity based Troopers discovered Jason S. Cipriano, 29, laying unresponsive on the shoulder of the road. Mr. Cipriano was pronounced deceased at scene by Allegany County Coroner Ted Crowell. 
 
Investigation conducted by Troop "A" Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) revealed that Jason S. Cipriano and Jason E. Mehmel, 33, got into a verbal argument in the roadway near Cipriano's residence at 5829 Tuckers Corner Road in Amity. This argument lead to a physical altercation, resulting in Mehmel fatally stabbing Cipriano in the upper chest area. Mehmel then fled the scene on foot, but a short time later surrendered himself to Troopers at the SP Amity barracks.
 
Upon conferring with Allegany County District Attorney Keith Slep, Mehmel was charged with Murder 2nd degree - a Class A-I Felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th - a Class A Misdemeanor. Mehmel was arraigned in the town of Friendship Court and had been remanded to the Allegany County Jail without bail.  
 
NYSP Amity Troopers and BCI members were assisted by the Troop A Forensic Investigations Unit, the Alfred Police Department, Cuba Police Department, University of Alfred Police Department, Wellsville Police Department and town of Amity Rescue.
