New Legislation to Extend Funding Adjustments for Medicare Dependent and Low Volume Hospitals

Congressman Tom Reed introduced legislation yesterday that will help Medicare Dependent and Medicare Low Volume hospitals to keep their funding adjustments. More than 200 hospitals nationwide receive funding adjustments are set to expire September 30, 2012, but Congressman Reed said failure to extend the funding will negatively impact the local economy and cause job cuts. Reed’s bill will extend the funding for another year and will also require the Government Accounting Office to look for better ways to administer the funding without such short-term extensions.
