Local Schools Worry About New Anti-bullying Legislation

Senator Catharine Young announced that the state Senate passed legislation to further protect students who are bullied or cyberbullied. The bill, which clarifies existing law, creates guidelines for school districts to develop policies to address the problem of cyberbullying. At the Olean Board of Education meeting last night superintendent Colleen Taggerty brought up the cyberbullying legislation. Taggerty expressed worry over the manpower and funds needed to implement in. Board member Mike Martello also expressed his concern. The legislation is directed towards stopping harassment in schools on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.
