A Warning from Wellsville Police

DATE: Tuesday April 3, 2012

The Wellsville Police Department would like to warn the public to be aware of potential phone call “scams”.  Several Village of Wellsville residents have received phone calls from unknown individuals who state they are a family member in need of bail money in order to be released from police custody. The caller is very convincing and will make the phone call short and tell the victim that there is not much time and that the money needs to be sent immediately.  If anyone calls you requesting money be sent to another country, this should be an immediate “red flag” that the call is fictitious and the phone call should be terminated immediately.  If you receive such a call, please make sure you contact the Wellsville Police Department or local police agency in an attempt to verify the information.
