Olean still ponders sidewalk repairs

The topic of sidewalk repair in Olean has been put on hold by the city.  At last nights Common Council meeting, the City of Olean raised concern about the replacement of homeowners sidewalks that have been damaged by growing tree roots. The biggest issue is who is responsible for the trees that have been planted in the subway otherwise known as the median between the sidewalk and the road. Despite the city's efforts to cut roots and prue the trees sidewalks can still become uneven . Olean Mayor Linda Witte says that sidewalks should be replaced because of safety concerns, the issue just comes down to whose footing the bill.
