Firefighters from a half dozen Allegany County towns battled a challenging blaze for more than an hour Tuesday at a gravel pit off state route 19 north of Wellsville. The fire was confined to machinery at the site. Several water-hauling tankers were needed at the off road scene. The cause was not immediately determined, although fire investigators were at the scene.
