He’s accused of shooting at state troopers in
Steuben County. Then after a 12 hour search, he was taken into custody in
Wellsville. Now, attorneys for 38-year old Richard VanGorden say they’ll use a psychiatric
defense at trial. Van Gorden will appear in court this morning. Not commenting
on specifics, his attorneys are simply saying that events leading up to the
shooting caused VanGorden to suffer some form of emotional disturbance. He
faces a possible life sentence, if convicted.
