February 23, 2012 BUFFALO, N.Y. – After the second day of the Atlantic 10 Championships, the men's swimming and diving team (201) remains in second-place, 47 points behind defending champion Massachusetts (248) with just two days remaining at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships inside the Flickinger Center. In the morning preliminary, freshman Ripley Danner broke the varsity record in the 200-yard IM (1:50.75). Freshman Vatslav Lets kicked off the night taking gold in the 500-yard freestyle (4:24.74), earning 20 points for the Brown and White. In the process, Lets broke the Atlantic 10 record, which was previously 4:26.40. He also broke the varsity record. Junior Elias Homerin took eighth clocking a time of 4:39.32 and picking up 11 more points for the Bonnies. The team added more points to the board, with Danner taking fifth-place in the 200-yard IM, breaking his own record from earlier (1:50.61). Yi Liu finished in 13th-place in the consolation final, clocking in at 1:53.62. Sophomore James Martin kept things exciting for the Bonnies by sprinting to second-place and a varsity record in the 50-yard freestyle (20.41). Martin breaks current woemn's swim coach, Seth Johnson's record. Junior Nathan Destree picked up more points for the Brown and White by finishing in 14th-place (21.28). The team finished off the night with the 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Martin, Destree, Lets, and Michael Burud finishing in 7th-place with a time of 1:23.11. Xavier (200), La Salle (173), St. Louis (156), Fordham (139) and George Washington (138) round out the standings. The Championships will continue Friday with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. |
