Kane Cheerleading Press Release

The Kane Cheerleading Boosters along with the Kane Cheerleaders hosted the 12th Annual Kane Mid-Winter Cheer Classic on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Kane Area High School.  Over 1,600 spectators attended throughout the day to watch and support their teams in competitive cheerleading.  Teams travelled from a 100 mile radius with teams coming from as far away as Slippery Rock, Erie and Westfield, NY to local teams from St. Marys and Warren.  All told, there were 847 athletes in attendance on 49 different teams.  The morning session of All Star Programs saw athletes ranging from 3 years old up to their 50's.  It started off with the Family Team from the Cheer Starz Gym called the Burnoutz.  They entertained the crowd with a high energy routine with moms, dads and older brothers and sisters for their younger teams.  The Tiny All Star teams followed in the Tiny division with ages 5 and under.  The age of the team progressed throughout the day through the Mini's, Youth, Junior and Senior divisions.  The Judges Choice Award for the most entertaining team went to the Rockers Youth All Star Team from Slippery Rock and the Spirit Award went to Ultimate Cheer from Emporium.  The afternoon session saw the competition turn to the Scholastic teams.  Competition at this level ranged from Youth Recreational teams, to Jr. High/Middle School through Large Varsity.  The home town Kane Area High School finished 2nd in the Medium Varsity Division with the team from Harbor Creek High School finishing first.  The Judges Choice Award was awarded to Elk County Catholic High School from the Large Varsity Division and the Spirit Award was given to the Redbank Valley Varsity team from the Small Varsity Division.  The best jumpers and tumblers were also awarded first through third place medals throughout the day.

Coach Niklaus comments:  This was an amazing day of competition.  Putting together an event of this magnitude takes a great deal of planning and support team.  Our cheerleading team, their parents, custodial staff, security and parking personnel are the best around and make this competition run smoothly.  The competition was really close in all the divisions throughout the day and our judges had the most difficult task and they did it very well.  I am also very proud of our Kane Team.  Not only did they set up everything the night before, they were at the school at 7:30am and worked the competition all day before competing at nearly 5:30pm that night.  For them to go out and only be 1 point away from first place after working all day is just amazing too me.  It was their most energetic routine of the year and they looked like they really had fun.  Coach Horton, Edinger and I are very proud of their efforts and can't wait to add more difficult skills in at practice over the next few weeks.  They will be in competition this coming weekend at Penn State-Behrend where we hope to continue that success.
