AU alumna to present next Bergren Forum on gravity, space

The Alfred University Bergren Forum presents “How Not to Fall Down a Black Hole,” a talk by Rachel (Lash) Maitra, AU class of 2001 and a visiting assistant professor of physics at Albion College, Albion, Mich., at 12:10 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center, Thursday, March 1. The program is open to the public free of charge.
Maitra will focus the presentation on the relationship between gravity and space-time and argue the question; can microscopic space-time foam save us when gravity gets too extreme?
Maitra graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Alfred University.  She also received an M. Phil and a Ph. D in Mathematics from Yale. Prior to teaching at Albion College she was a visiting researcher at the both Michigan and Amsterdam University.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred Division of Human studies and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch: coffee and tea will be available.
