PA Supreme Court agrees to request by PCN to televise redistricting hearing live

HARRISBURG – The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania today announced that the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) will be televising live its Jan. 23 oral argument session on the state’s legislative redistricting plan.

PCN asked the court for permission to air the proceeding live as opposed to the usual practice of recording the sessions for future broadcast. The Supreme Court agreed to grant the request for this hearing, noting the profound affect the redistricting plan would have on political districts across the Commonwealth.  It is the first time a Supreme Court proceeding will be televised live other than for ceremonial proceedings.
The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Supreme Court’s Harrisburg courtroom on the 4th floor of the Pennsylvania Capitol.  A schedule for the 11 appeals has been set. Observers will be admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. Once the courtroom is full, those not admitted may wait in line to take a seat as those who were seated leave.
