Steuben County stand-off ends


A three hour stand-off in the Town of Tuscarora has resulted in charges against an Addison man. At approximately 12:15am, Troopers from the Painted Post barracks were dispatched to a reported domestic incident at #1675 Pipeline Lane in the Town of Tuscarora. Upon arrival it was determeined that John G Harris dob 02/20/62, of the same address was alone inside the residence. After approximately 3 hours of negotiations by Troopers and NYSP Troop"E" Crisis Negotiators, Harris voluntarily surrendered without incident. Further investigation revealed that Harris had poured gasoline throught his residence at a time when others were present, including a subject less that 17 years of age. It was also revealed that Harris was in possession of a 20 gauge shotgun and had previously been convicted of a felony
Harris was charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st, a class D felony, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, class A misdemeanor and Criminal Possession of at Weapon 4th, also a class A Misdemeanor. Harris was arraigned in the Town of Tuscarora Court and remanded to the Steuben Co Jail in Lieu of $24,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
