Fireworks to cap off daylong observance of Alfred University’s 175th anniversary

Monday, Dec. 5 marks the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Alfred Select School in 1836, an institution that evolved into Alfred University. The University will mark the occasion throughout the day.
AVI Dining Services will roll out a birthday cake during the lunch hour in Powell Campus Center. At 6 p.m., AU’s Drawn to Diversity program will run a campuswide “amazing race” where students will solve riddles and complete challenges in order to win $175. The day will conclude at 8 p.m. with a fireworks show over the village of Alfred provided by Young Explosives of Rochester.
