Give Thanks, Give Hope, Give Blood this Thanksgiving

The American Red Cross Blood Services – New York-Penn Region is encouraging all eligible blood donors to give blood this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season to help maintain the community blood supply. About every two seconds someone in America needs blood, and donors can give someone hope this holiday season by donating blood.
“By adding blood donation to Thanksgiving traditions, families can help avert a blood shortage and begin their gift giving season early,” said Kay E. Schwartz chief executive officer, New York-Penn Region.  “For those in good health, taking just one hour out of a busy holiday schedule to give blood is an active way of showing thanks.  And, that one hour can give hope to patients who are less fortunate this Thanksgiving.”

Donating blood is a simple act that helps save lives.  Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor.  Due to hectic holiday schedules, busy travel plans and inclement weather in the Northeast, blood donations can decline during this time of year.  However, it is the perfect time of year to show your support and give back to the community.
During the month of November, every presenting blood donor in the New York-Penn Region will be eligible to enter a “Turkey-A-Day-Giveaway.”  Each day, one $50 grocery gift card will be given away that can go towards your holiday meal. In addition, all presenting donors between November 24-26 will receive a special “Give Life. Give Blood.” t-shirt."
