Smith in Police Custody

The Emporium man sought for almost a month for the attempted kidnapping of a bank employee is now in police custody. Thomas Smith turned himself in to police without incident last night when a tip led officers to the Allegany Pub. The business on the East End of Emporium, owned by Smith's sister has been the site of numerous searches since his disappearance after the incident on August 8th. It was then investigators say Smith pointed a gun at a bank employee in her SUV and told her to drive. She crashed the vehicle and that's when Smith took off. She was not injured. The 58 year old man's house being foreclosed on by the bank is believed to have been the reason for his actions.
