Federal Authorities Take Over Investigation After Charges Have Been Dropped

It's official...all local charges against Thomas Smith have been dropped and the investigation has been taken over by federal authorities. He's the Emporium man who led police on a nearly month long manhunt after he allegedly tried to kidnap a bank employee at gunpoint back in August.
He was arrested by local authorities earlier this month and is being held in the Clinton county Jail. Smith has pleaded innocent and jury selection for his trial is expected to begin in November. He was indicted federally because the alleged incident involved taking a motor vehicle by force and using a fire arm during the commission of the crime.
