Police Looking For People Responsible for Stealing Flags From Soldier Memorial

Police in Kane are looking for those responsible for stealing flags
and flagpoles from the memorial for a soldier from Kane who died while serving in Afghanistan. The thefts occured sometime between August 1 and Monday at the VanGiesen Memorial in Gibbs Hill Cemetery. Two 20-foot flagpoles were broken from their bases and removed, along with a POW flag, a Pennsylvania state flag and an American flag. Ken VanGiesen a 1999 Kane Area High School Graduate died July 11, 2011. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to contact Kane-based state police.
