Cuomo Hanging up the Phone on Telemarketers using Pre-Recorded Messages

NY governor Andrew Cuomo called telemarketers who use pre-recorded messages intrusive and irritating when they call New York State residents. Cuomo signed a bill into law yesterday that will help cut down on these calls.  The bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Didi Barrett will require telemarketers doing business in New York to register with the Department of State which will have the authority to revoke or suspend the registration of companies that do not comply with state law. In addition, violation of the telemarketing law could result in additional fines and misdemeanor charges. The legislation will take effect in 90 days, but does not include automated calls for political campaigns.
