Juneteenth Day Today!

It’s Juneteenth today, a day that has been celebrated for centuries. The Pennsylvania Senate passed legislation to observe today as “Juneteenth National Freedom Day.” This holiday is also know as African-American Emancipation day and has been celebrated since 1865 when slaves in Texas learned they were being freed. Pennsylvania State Senator Shirley Kitchen sponsored the Senate-adopted resolution and said that Juneteenth Day is a time to remember the principles held by all Americans: liberty and justice for all.
