Bonnies seeded 11th for A-10 Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The bracket for the 34th annual Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship was announced Tuesday with St. Bonaventure ranked 11th out of the 12-team field.
Charlotte is the top seed for the tournament to be held April 13-15 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. Rounding out the 12-team field are Xavier (second), Duquesne (third), Temple (fourth), George Washington (fifth), Richmond (sixth), Saint Joseph's (seventh), Fordham (eighth), Saint Louis (ninth), Dayton (10th), St. Bonaventure (11th) and La Salle (12th).
Competition begins on Friday, April 13 at 8:00 am with the final match of the day set to start at 5:00 pm. The Bonnies will take on sixth-seed Richmond in one of two matchups slated for 11 a.m. The winner moves on to face third-seed Duquesne in the quarterfinal round at 5 p.m.
While suffering in the win-loss column, mustering just three wins on the season, the Bonnies saw some solid individual performances. The pair of sophomore Elliot Fanshel and junior Luis Guevara and sophomore Javier Ortiz and freshman Trevor Haskell both rebounded to .500 records (4-4) in doubles, finishing on three and two match winning streaks, respectively.
In the win over La Salle April 5, all five singles victories came in straight sets, led by Guevara at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2, and Ortiz at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1.
Both Guevara and Ortiz also secured doubles victories by combining with junior Oscar Yanez and Fanshel, respectively, for wins out of the No. 1 spot, 8-3, and No. 2 slot, 8-5, respectively. Freshmen Miguel Suarez and Haskell completed the doubles sweep with tiebreaking win, 8-7 (4).
On Saturday, April 14, the first semifinal match is slated for 11:00 am, while the second semifinal contest is set for 2:00 pm. The championship match will be played on Sunday, April 15 at 11:00 am.
The A-10 Men's Tennis Championship is a single-elimination event and the winner will receive the Conference's automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
