Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is taking heat from abortion-rights supporters and Democrats over a comment he made about a bill requiring ultrasounds for women seeking abortions, saying those who didn’t want to see the fetal images could "close your eyes."
At a news conference this week, the Republican governor was asked whether women should be made to watch images. He replied, "I don’t know how you make anybody watch, OK? Because you just have to close your eyes."
Abortion-rights advocates say the comment is insulting to women, and the flap has spread on the Internet.
Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley said Friday his boss’ remark was taken out of context by liberals trying to score political points.
