Statement From House Majority Leader Turzai Regarding the Reapportionment Opinion of the Supreme Court

The following is a statement from House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny County) in response to the majority opinion of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on redistricting:

“The Legislative Reapportionment Commission firmly met its constitutional and statutory obligations. The Supreme Court opinions in fact concede that we met the necessary standards set by court precedent.

“Unfortunately, by a 4-3 vote, the court is changing the rules and applying them in a retroactive manner. That creates undue hardship on the citizens of Pennsylvania and the proper functioning of state government.

“We will, of course, move with all deliberate speed to meet the challenges in front of us.”
