State Police in Auburn locate person at the bottom of a gorge in Moravia

On February 17th, at approximately 3:50pm, Charles Barney, age 53, from East Amherst, NY, was located at the bottom of the Decker Creek gorge adjacent to St Rt 38A in the Town of Moravia, Cayuga County NY. EMS responded and pronounced him deceased. His body was removed to the Onondaga County ME’s Office at the direction of Cayuga County Corner Inv Paul Weiman. Investigation shows that Barney was in the area to photograph waterfalls and apparently slipped and fell to the bottom of the gorge. The State Police were assisted by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department, Moravia Police Department, Cayuga County High Angle Rescue Team, Moravia FD, Locke FD, Sempronious FD, and West Niles FD.
