Dr. Karlik sees area patients at Allegheny Eye Care in Kane and performs surgeries at Kane Community Hospital (KCH) through KCH’s short procedures unit (SPU)/same day surgery.  Dr. Howard provides next day, post-operative care for the convenience of his patients.

“KCH is pleased to extend privileges to Dr. Karlik to perform cataract surgery at Kane Community Hospital (KCH),” stated J. Gary Rhodes., Vice President, UPMC Hamot and CEO, Kane Community Hospital.  “His services and expertise have re-established ophthalmologic surgery adding to the growing list of specialty care options at KCH and provide patients with high-quality care close to home.”

Dr. Karlik is an associate of Elk County Eye Clinic and longtime St. Mary's ophthalmologist Luis W. Lu, M.D.   He serves on the ERHC staff and that of the Regional Ambulatory Surgery Center of which UPMC Hamot is a regional partner.

At KCH Dr. Karlik performs cataract surgery. Among Dr. Karlik’s specialties is no-stitch micro-incision cataract extraction. “Cataract removal is a tricky thing,” he said. “It’s very delicate microsurgery and every single case is different. It’s one of the surgical procedures I love to do in the operating room because it’s such a challenge and because a successful surgery makes so much of a difference to a patient’s eyesight.”
