New York State Police in Machias are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred at approximately 4:00 PM Wednesday on Mt. Pleasant Avenue in the Village of Franklinville. A bus carrying a driver and 7 adults with disabilities veered off the roadway, struck a tree and entered the ditch. The 50 year old male driver (name not released at this time) from Olean, NY was transported by ambulance to Olean General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. One of the passengers was also transported by ambulance to Olean General Hospital for a minor knee injury. Preliminary investigation revealed the driver possibly suffered an unknown illness immediately preceding the crash. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Franklinville Fire, Rescue and Police Departments and Machias Ambulance were also on scene.
