State is critical of Ellicottville

The New York State Comptroller has criticized the Village of Ellicottville for failing to monitor water loss, saying the village's system is losing approximately 84 percent of its water.  That figure is significantly higher than the 10 percent goal established by the Federal Environment Protection Agency.
According to Channel 4 news, the lost water means lost revenue - at least $624,000 annually.
