Alegany County seeks additional Deputy Sheriff

Committee Members Present:  M. Healy, G. Benson, D. Burdick, T. Hopkins, C. Crandall (Absent:  A. McGraw)

Others Present:  M. Alger, V. Grant, J. Margeson, T. Miner, K. Monroe, B. Riehle, K. Slep, R. Starks, R. Whitney

Call to Order:  The meeting was called to order at 10:03 a.m. by Public Safety Committee Chairman Dwight “Mike” Healy.

Attorney/Client Session

            A motion was made by Legislator Hopkins, seconded by Legislator Healy and carried to enter into attorney/client session at 10:04 a.m. (Voting No:  D. Burdick).  Immediately following discussion at 10:30 a.m., a motion was made by Legislator Hopkins, seconded by Legislator Healy and carried to end the attorney/client session and return to the regular meeting.

Deputy Sheriff Position

            County Administrator John Margeson presented a request on behalf of Sheriff Rick Whitney to fill a vacant Deputy Sheriff (Council 82, Local 3989) position to man the magnetometer that will be located on the Ground Floor entrance to the County Office Building.  The request was approved on a motion by Legislator Healy, seconded by Legislator Benson and carried.   (Voting No:  D. Burdick)   Refer to Ways & Means

Correction Officer Position

            Mr. Margeson also requested a resolution on behalf of Sheriff Whitney creating a position of Correction Officer (Council 82, Local 3989).  It was noted that the request to fill this position should be referred to the Ways & Means Committee.  The request was approved on a motion by Legislator Healy, seconded by Legislator Hopkins and carried.  (Voting No:  D. Burdick)   Prepare Resolution to Come off the Floor at the November 28 Board Meeting, Refer to Ways & Means for Filling of Position Contingent on Passage of Resolution

Adjournment: 

There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:31 a.m. following a motion made by Legislator Hopkins, seconded by Legislator Benson and carried.
