Alfred University sponsors Zumbathon®

ALFRED  –  Alfred University (AU) will sponsor a “Party in Pink” Zumbathon@ to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, in McLane Center on the AU campus.
Tickets, which are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, will be on sale at the Alfred University Bookstore, Powell Campus Center, through Oct. 8. They may also be obtained by calling Zumba® instructor Denise Eck, who is organizing the event, at 585.808.3473.
Joining Eck in leading the dance routines will be Angela Delahunt and Erica Aftuck, who are also Zumba® instructors.
“A Zumbathon@ is a great way to try out a fun and easy exercise program,” said Eck. “It’s three hours of fitness routines based on world rhythms and dance, with instruction, and participants can jump in any time or chose to sit out a few. Plus, it’s to benefit a great cause. The Susan G. Komen Foundation promotes breast cancer awareness and research into a cure.”
The Zumbathon® will mark the conclusion of Alfred University’s “Pink Out” week on campus, during which there will be several activities to promote breast cancer awareness and to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The Passionately Pink committee, chaired by Tim Mordaunt, a junior accounting major from North Tonawanda, is planning the week’s events.
Tee-shirts promoting the Passionately Pink cause are already on sale at the Alfred University Bookstore.  As with all Passionately Pink events on campus, proceeds from the sale of the shirts benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
“Just wearing pink proudly, across campus, to class, to meetings, to speakers, to athletic events and within the Alfred community raises awareness,” said Brenda Porter ’93, residence life director and advisor to the committee.
Pink Week begins with the sale of pink hair extensions for $5 each; they will be available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 3 in Powell Campus Center.
The fourth annual Pink Picture – everyone on campus and in the Alfred community is invited to participate – is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in front of The Brick residence hall.  Those who are in the photo are being asked to “wear your best pink.”
The annual Pink Out football game is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Merrill Field against Hartwick College. The Saxon football team will wear touches of pink – shoelaces, wrist bands, athletic tape – to show their support for the cause, while those in the stands are also being asked to wear some pink (along with their purple and gold!).
