St. Bonaventure University Athletic News |
February 28, 2012 GOODYEAR, Ariz. – On a blustery afternoon in the desert, the St. Bonaventure golf team opened its spring season with two rounds at the Palm Valley Golf Club, completing day one in 15th place at the Re-Bath Snowman Getaway hosted by Washington State University. The Bonnies shot a team total of 312 in the first round, but closed the day with a 336 over the second 18 of the day for a two-round total of 648. Missouri-Kansas City leads the tournament's 16-team field with a 592 two-round total. Junior Greg Horvath led the Bonnies with an opening-round 4-over 76 before capping his day with an 80 in the second round to finish in a tie for 64th overall with a 156. Brian McKenna shot rounds of 79 and 83 for a 162 total, while freshman Pierce Terrance emerged from a No. 5 position with rounds of 78 and 86 to finish just two shots behind junior McKenna. Senior Kevin Lewis finished with a 166 after rounds of 79 and 87, respectively, while sophomore Scott Brady was one shot off that pace after firing an opening-round 80 and second-round 87. Winds – which consistently gusted between 20-30 miles per hour – impacted every team in the field as the day wore on as each school finished with a higher second-round score than its first-round total. The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played on Tuesday beginning with a 10 a.m. EST (8 a.m. local) shotgun start and can be followed live by clicking here or on Twitter @BonniesGolf. |
