Apple Prices Double as Production Falls

With fall colors decorating the landscape, it’s time for the 2012 apple crop in New York. Apple production is down this year, especially in the Southern Tier, which is exposed to lower temperatures on average. Weather conditions over the summer are the main culprit for the lower crop, which will drive up apple prices all over the state and apple products like fresh cider will also be affected. Some cider mill operators are saying that they are having trouble stocking their cider mill with an adequate supply of apples for fall production. Apples are now going for around $2 a pound, double the price for the crop last year.
