The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, in celebration
of American Pharmacists Month, is continuing its series of information on the
challenges and solutions to controlling pharmacy and health care costs. This
second in the series explores the waste and related issues that frequently
occurs when patients are forced to use mail order pharmacies.
“Mail order medications actually can contribute
to increased medication waste and higher costs,” said Rob Frankil, PPA
President. The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) has compiled
many specific examples of mail order pharmacy waste which were sent in by
participating pharmacies in the Dispose My Meds Program.
